Localities in Leh

Leh is one of the two districts into which Ladakh was got divided. Leh District is now part of Jammu Kashmir State and is the 2nd largest district of India. Located at an altitude of about 11,562 ft, the district is divided into 17 blocks. Each block is again divided into panchayats. Leh District is divided into 6 tehsils namely Khalsi Tehsil, Nubra Tehsil, Kharu Tehsil, Durubk Tehsil, Nyoma Tehsil, and Leh Tehsil.

Leh City is located about 293 KM away in the west of Srinagar, the capital city of Jammu and Kashmir. The city is surrounded by Leh Tehsil in east, Chuchot Tehsil in the south, Nubra Tehsil and Panamic Tehsil in north. The nearby cities of Leh are Chamba, Keylong, and Anantnag.  Leh has many important tourist attractions like Nubra Valley, Du-Khang, Hemis Monastery, Pangong Tso Lake, Tso Kar, Ladakh Palace, Pangong Lake, Sum-Tsek, Manjushri Temple and others. Main Market Area in Leh

This is the central part of Leh City and houses important hotels and emporiums. This area also has numerous bank branches. Handicraft and handloom shops, book shops, and hotels and accommodation of all types are available at this central place of Leh City.

Choglamsar in Leh

Leh has a Tibetan refugee area at Choglamsar, outskirts of Leh. This place is associated with the history and culture of Tibet. Many important institutions are located in this area. The place is about 9 Km drive from Leh and is located on the way to Hemis Monastery. The place has SOS village in the near vicinity. A handicraft center exclusively known for carpet weaving is also located near Choglamsar. Jivatsal, the prayer ground of Dalai Lama is also located very close to Choglamsar. Other places of interest in this region are the monasteries Sabu, Sankar and Spituk.

Choglamsar has a Diesel Power House and the most important training institute for the monks, Central Institute of Buddhist Studies. Keylong-Leh road passes through Choglamsar. The famous center of educational and spiritual studies, the Mahabodhi Karuna Charitable Trust is also located in Choglamsar. It has an orphanage, old age home and charitable hospital.

Chulung in Leh

Chulung Road in Leh houses many types of hotels including the budget and luxury hotels. Located at the center of Leh City, Chulung has hotels like Hotel Lasermo, the Grand Dragon, and Hotel Nezer Holiday where tourists get wonderful staying experience and panoramic view of the surroundings. 

Chuchot in Leh

Chuchot Tehsil has its headquarters at Chuchot Town. It is located about 13 KM in the south of Leh, the district headquarters. It is surrounded by Panamic Tehsil, Nubra Tehsil and Leh Tehsil. The nearby cities of this tehsil are Chamba City, Keylong City and Dalhousie City.

The main language spoken here is Urdu. Nearby attractions are Alchi, Hemis Monastery etc. Villages within Chuchot Tehsil in Leh are Chuchot Gongma Part I & Ii, Chuchot Shamma Part I & Ii , Chuchot Yokma Part I and II, Nang, Shey A & B, Stok, Stakna etc.

Saboo in Leh

This area of Leh is famous for its state-of-the art resort, Saboo Resort. Nubra in Leh

Nubra Valley offers the most enchanting views of Ladakh region and is considered as one of the most sought after tourist destination of north India. Tourists get to enjoy mesmerizing scenic beauty among the serene nature. In this region, Shyok River joins Nubra (Siachen) River and the valley is formed. Village Turtuk located in this valley is famous for huge plantation of Apricot trees. Nubra has accommodation ranging from low to medium budgets.

Durbuk near Leh

Durbuk is a tehsil located about 63 KM in the east of Leh City, the district headquarters. Durbuk is located about 356 KM away in the west of Srinagar, the capital city of Jammu and Kashmir. In the west of Durbuk lies Chuchot, Panamic and Leh tehsils. Pangong Lake is an important tourist attraction of this tehsil. Nubra Valley, Hemis Monastery etc. are also located in the close vicinity of Durbuk. Kargiam, Chushul, Maan are the villages included of Durbuk.
