Initiation of Samstanling Monastery
This monastery is nearly 150 years old and is situated in the Nubra Valley Region’s Sumlur Village. This is located nearly 120 km away from Leh the capital of Ladakh. It is known that this monastery was founded by Lama Tsultim Nima in the year 1841. This Village of Leh is believed to be famous for the presence of this monastery. The monastery is beautifully surrounded by greenery all around it. The steps towards the monastery are encircled with berries that continue till the entrance of the monastery. In the entry of the monastery one can see religious prayers written along side. Like other monasteries, this monastery is also provided with assembly hall that contains attractive hangings that depicts the teachings of Lord Buddha and some basic customs of Buddhism. The monastery contains two assembly halls and for making it easier for people to distinguish the two assembly halls they are named as “old assembly hall” and “new assembly hall”.
The other side of the monastery is attached with a housing complex. This serves a home for the monks residing in this monastery. The most amazing attraction of this monastery is a seven year old boy, who is believed to be the reincarnation of Lama Bakula Rinpoche. This boy resides in the housing complex and offers sacred blessings to people who pay a visit to him. He also ties some threads in the wrists of the people. Local people believe that the blessings of this young boy are pure and divine that it can purify any one’s heart and soul.
