This river water is caused by the dissolving snows during the months of summer. The entry and exit of the village is marked by Mani Walls. This place has the first Mani Walls in the entire Zanskar Valley. Encrypted stones are known as Mani Walls.

The encryption on these stones are mainly of the sacred rhyme or any picture of Lord Buddha. The main reason behind setting the Mani Walls in the entrance and exit of the village is that Buddhists wants people visiting the village to carry some message of purity and positivity with them when they leave the village. They also wished to greet their guests with positive energy and so they decided to set up the Mani Walls in the entrance of the village. The village is surrounded by the mountains in the background and the Zanskar Valley. This village is the perfect destination for nature lovers. Shagma Karphu village extends up to 15 km.

Local People of Shagma Karphu Village

This village provides residence to the Buddhist people. There are nearly 10-12 huts in this village where people mostly stay. The sole income of these people residing in this small village of Zanskar Valley is growing barley in their farms. People of this area wears long white robes made up of wool and trousers with that along with a waist belt. It is an obvious fact that they do not have a lavish lifestyle like most of the small town people. The main food that they survive on is dry flour and tea. Generally travellers visiting this village do not spend a night since there is nothing much to see. But in case they do so, local people leave their own huts for their guests and in the mean time earn some additional money in exchange of their favour.

Rangdum Gompa, two hundred years old monastery in the village of Rangdum in the Zanskar Valley in Ladakh is 4 miles away from the village Shagma Karphu. A tour to this monastery can be completed within few hours since it is not as huge as other monasteries. This monastery also has a very special museum that attracts visitors.

How to Reach Shagma Karphu Village

It is easier to reach this village from Leh. Leh Airport is the only way that connects this village with Leh via air. When you plan to visit this village via train then the nearest railway station that you can avail is Jammu Railway Station. There are also regular bus services from Jammu and Kashmir that will take you to Zanskar Valley and hence you can avail this bus for visiting Shagma Karphu Village.
